Complete Sound System Setup for Indian Wedding — Full Guide
Setting up a professional sound system for an Indian wedding requires careful planning of equipment selection, speaker placement, signal routing, and cabling. Whether you're a DJ doing your first large wedding or an experienced professional expanding your rig, this guide covers the complete process for Delhi NCR weddings in 2025.
Step 1 — Assess the Venue
Before selecting equipment, visit the venue or get its dimensions:
- Guest count: Determines total wattage needed (see our Speaker Watt vs Room Size guide)
- Indoor or outdoor: Indoor requires less power; outdoor needs 2–3× more
- Ceiling height: High ceilings need more power and careful speaker aiming
- Power supply: Confirm generator capacity — large systems need 15–25A circuits
- Stage location: Where is the performance area? This determines speaker placement angles
Step 2 — Select Your Equipment
For a Medium Wedding (200–400 guests) in Delhi NCR
- 4× 15-inch passive PA speakers (600W RMS each)
- 2× 18-inch subwoofer cabinets (1000W RMS each)
- 1× PU7800 amplifier for PA tops (stereo)
- 1× PU7800 amplifier for subs (bridged or stereo)
- 1× KMC8 or 16-channel DSP mixer
- 1× Dual UHF wireless mic system
- 1× Active crossover (set to 80Hz sub/top split)
- Speaker cables (Speakon), XLR cables, power distribution
Step 3 — Speaker Placement
Correct speaker placement is as important as equipment quality:
- PA tops: Place on stands at 2–2.5 metres height, angled down 10–15° toward the audience centre. Position at the front corners of the audience area, not behind the stage.
- Subwoofers: Place on the ground at the front of the stage. Stacking two subs vertically (one on top of the other) increases bass output and directivity.
- Delay speakers: For very long venues, add delay speakers midway through the audience area — timed 20–30ms behind the main speakers to prevent echo.
Step 4 — Signal Flow and Routing
The signal chain for a complete wedding setup:
- DJ laptop / phone → Mixer input channels (via XLR or RCA)
- Wireless mic receivers → Mixer mic input channels
- Mixer main output (XLR) → Active crossover input
- Crossover high output → PU7800 (Amp 1) → PA tops
- Crossover low output → PU7800 (Amp 2) → Subwoofers
- Mixer monitor output → Stage monitor speakers (if needed)
Step 5 — Soundcheck Checklist
- Check each wireless mic for range and dropout-free operation across the full venue
- Play test music at event volume — check for feedback, distortion, or uneven coverage
- Walk the audience area while music plays — verify volume is even front-to-back
- Check all cable connections are secure (Speakon locked, XLR locked)
- Confirm crossover is set correctly — no bass from PA tops, no midrange from subs
- Set amplifier input sensitivity so mixer is at 0dB when amps are at 80% volume
