How to Connect a Crossover Network Plate — Step-by-Step Guide
Installing or replacing a crossover network plate in your DJ speaker cabinet is a straightforward task if you follow the right steps. This guide walks you through the complete wiring process so you can do it confidently without damaging your speakers.
Tools and Materials You Need
- Crossover network plate (2-way or 3-way, matched to your speakers)
- Screwdriver (Phillips and flat)
- Soldering iron and solder (for permanent connections)
- Wire stripper
- Speaker wire (16–18 AWG for mid-top, 14–16 AWG for woofer)
- Multimeter (to verify connections)
Understanding the Crossover Plate Terminals
Every crossover network plate has clearly labeled terminals. Here's what each means:
- INPUT + / − — Where the amplifier signal enters. Connect your amplifier's speaker output here (+ to +, − to −)
- HF + / − (or TWEETER) — Output to your horn driver / compression tweeter
- LF + / − (or WOOFER) — Output to your main woofer driver
- MF + / − (3-way only) — Output to your mid-range driver
- LEVEL / ATT knob — Adjusts tweeter output level relative to woofer (usually pre-set, don't over-adjust)
Step-by-Step Wiring
Step 1 — Mount the crossover plate
Most crossover plates mount on the back panel of the cabinet using 4 screws. Ensure it's secure and the binding post holes align with the cabinet's input jacks.
Step 2 — Connect the amplifier input
Run your speaker cable from the amplifier to the crossover plate's INPUT terminals. Connect positive (red) to INPUT + and negative (black) to INPUT −. Double-check polarity before proceeding.
Step 3 — Connect the woofer
Run a length of 16AWG speaker wire from LF + to the woofer's + terminal, and LF − to the woofer's − terminal. Polarity is critical — a reversed woofer connection causes the driver to move in the opposite direction, dramatically reducing bass output and causing phase cancellation.
Step 4 — Connect the tweeter / horn driver
Run wire from HF + to the compression driver's + terminal, and HF − to its − terminal. Keep this wire short to minimise resistance in the high-frequency path.
Step 5 — Verify with multimeter
Set your multimeter to DC resistance. Measure between INPUT + and INPUT −. You should read the combined impedance of both drivers (typically 6–8Ω for a 4Ω nominal cabinet). If you read near 0Ω, you have a short circuit — recheck all connections before powering the amplifier.
Step 6 — Test at low volume first
Before sealing the cabinet, connect the amplifier and play music at low volume. Both woofer and tweeter should produce sound. Tap the cone of the woofer gently — it should move outward when the signal pushes it.
Common Mistakes to Avoid
- Reversed polarity on any driver — causes phase cancellation and weak bass
- Using too-thin wire for the woofer run — causes resistance and power loss
- Over-tightening screw terminals that crack the crossover board
- Bypassing the crossover — sending full-range signal directly to a tweeter will destroy it immediately

Crossover Network Plate कैसे Connect करें — Step by Step
Terminal Labels
- HF + / − (TWEETER) — Horn/compression driver को output
- LF + / − (WOOFER) — Main woofer को output
- MF + / − (3-way) — Mid-range driver को output
Wiring Steps
Step 1 — Crossover plate mount करें
Cabinet के back panel पर 4 screws से secure करें।
Step 2 — Amplifier input connect करें
INPUT + को red wire (positive) से, INPUT − को black wire (negative) से connect करें।
Step 3 — Woofer connect
Step 4 — Tweeter connect
Step 6 — Low volume test
Common Mistakes
- Reversed polarity — phase cancellation और weak bass
- Thin wire for woofer — power loss
